Delhi Metro is currently operating a 220 km network.  Delhi Metro has embarked on an ambitious programme of sourcing power from roof top solar plants and has already installed over 20 MW of roof top solar power till date.

The solar power is being procured under the RESCO (Renewable Energy Supply Company) model whereby the CAPEX and the OPEX of the roof top solar power plants are incurred by a bidder selected through an open competitive bidding.  Delhi Metro enters into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for a period of 25 years.   The PPA’s done so far are sourcing power that is 10-15% cheaper compared to the rates payable to the energy supply companies.  Thus, Delhi Metro is not only able to address the environment sustainability; the reduction in the power cost enables in enhancing its financial sustainability.

Under the above project, DMRC has installed solar power panels at all kinds of roof tops i.e. the curved roof of stations, service buildings, parking lots and train depots.  Some of the photographs are attached.
