Exploring the theme of integrated mobility planning for better cities, on 5 March the UITP India Regional Office organised a seminar on Integrated Urban Mobility in Jaipur.
Hosted by Jaipur Development Authority (JDA), the seminar was inaugurated by Mr. C. S. Rajan, Additional Chief Secretary (Infrastructure), Government of Rajasthan, in the presence of UITP Secretary General Alain Flausch and other Government of Rajasthan dignitaries.
In his inaugural speech, Mr Rajan highlighted the importance of strengthening public transport by adopting integrated planning, stressing that the biggest urban transport challenge is integration.
Alain Flausch emphasised the importance of integration for a city like Jaipur, where traffic is very challenging and any system functioning in isolation would lead to more problems.
Mr. D.B. Gupta, Principal Secretary, Government of Rajasthan, noted that urban infrastructure and urban mobility are key issues for the development of cities. Public transport should be affordable and different modes including metros, BRTs and city buses should complement each other. He also stressed the importance of last-mile connectivity.
The technical sessions addressed the issues related to the policy framework for integrated urban mobility, better modal integration for commuter-friendly systems, and the need for integrated transport to make cities healthier. Over 110 delegates from across the country participated in the seminar and benefitted from the discussions.
