EUROPEAN INVESTMENT BANK EXTENDED EUR 500 MILLION LOAN TO BENGALURU METRO

European Investment Bank (EIB) has approved the loan of EUR 500 million to Namma (Bengaluru) Metro, highest loan amount to support the sustainable transport project outside of Europe. The loan amount is sanctioned for the construction of 22 kms line with 18 metro stations and for the procurement of 96 metro coaches for the new line (Metro Line 6).

KARNATAKA ELECTRIC VEHICLE AND ENERGY STORAGE POLICY 2017 – AN INITIATIVE TO PROMOTE ELECTRIC VEHICLES

Government of India is promoting the use of Electric Vehicles (EVs) in India and has ambitious to convert all vehicles into electric powered by 2030. Karnataka has become the first state in India to issue state wide “Karnataka Electric Vehicles & Electric Storage Policy 2017” to develop the ecosystem for EVs.

NEW METRO RAIL POLICY IN INDIA UNVEILED TO PROMOTE PRIVATE PARTICIPATION

Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has framed a new Metro Rail Policy to promote ‘Make in India’ initiative and ‘Private Participation’ in metro rail projects. The policy has been approved by the cabinet meeting and will be unveiled soon. There was no metro specific policy framework in India. The policy aims to enable realization of growing metro rail aspirations of a large number of cities but in a responsible manner.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT SYSTEM SHOULD BE SELF-SUSTAINABLE - DELHI METRO RAIL CORPORATION

Mr. Alain Flausch, Secretary General, UITP Brussels was part of panel discussion on "UN Sustainable Development Goals: A game changer for transport planning" at International Transport Forum on May 31, 2017 in Leipzig, Germany. UITP SIGNED MEMORANDUM OF COOPERATION WITH UPSRTC

UITP  (International Association of Public Transport) signed an Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with UPSRTC (Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation). The signing ceremony was held at UITP Stand during UITP Global Public Transport Summit 2017 on 15 May 2017. The MoC was signed by Mr. Alain Flausch, Secretary General, UITP and Mr. K. Ravinder Naik, Managing Director, UPSRTC.

UITP INDIA RECOGNITION 2017 @ GLOBAL PUBLIC TRANSPORT SUMMIT

UITP (International Association of Public Transport) India Office successfully concluded "UITP India Recognition 2017" at "Global Public Transport Summit" in Montreal, Canada on 15 May 2017. UITP received 25 outstanding applications were submitted from 9 cities in India by 13 organizations. All the entries represent great achievements of public transport sector in last two years.

BEST MUMBAI IS INDUCTING NEW HI-TECH BUSES TO INCREASE RIDERSHIP

The BEST (Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport) Undertakings is inducting new buses to its existing fleet of 4,100 buses. The undertaking had placed an order to acquire 303 such buses from Tata Motors at a cost of INR 5.1 million each. The city has received first lot of 3 buses and will induct the same immediately. It will induct around 33 new buses by March 2017.

The 2nd UITP India Seminar on IT Solutions for Public Transport held recently in Bangalore reflected the huge potential available to develop advanced ITS technology for improving the country’s public transportation system. Ably organized by UITP India under the leadership of Dr. Ekroop Caur, Managing Director, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation, and Head, UITP India Board, the Seminar was hosted by Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and attracted luminaries from the transport sector across the globe.
