INDIAN BUDGET – IMPLICATION FOR TRANSPORT SECTOR

Government of India has unveiled its annual budget for year 2017-18 with big fanfare. The government has allocated INR 2413.87 billion (US$ 37 billion) in 2017-18 for transportation sector as a whole, including rail, roads, shipping. It is expected that the magnitude of investment will spur a huge amount of economic activity across the country and create more job opportunities.

DECEMBER 2016 - MOBILITY MONTH OF THE YEAR

December 2016 should be called as best month for mobility in India.  - 2 new bus system inaugurated (Noida and Nagpur), 1 BRT Corridor Started (Amritsar), 1 Metro line started Pilot (Lucknow), 2 New Metro Line is inaugrated (Mumbai) and 1 New metro line is approved (Pune). Further, Government of India released National Taxi Guidelines to promote technology app. 

UITP wishes that Government of India and other stakeholders should make 2017 as Mobility Year for India. The government should commit more investment towards the development of Public Transport Infrastructure in cities.

METRO PROJECT LAUNCHED IN PUNE CITY

Pune city is the latest entrant to the list of city with Metro system. Pune is one of the emerging cities in India with a population of 5 million. The city is emerging as IT and automotive city.

Pune Metro is a under construction metro rail project for the Pune Metropolitan Area. The project is initiated by The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA). The Project will be implemented by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MAHA-METRO), which will be a 50:50 jointly owned company of Government of India and Maharashtra government.

LUCKNOW METRO STARTED THE TRAIL RUN

The Lucknow Metro is a Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) being constructed to provide the city of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh with an environment friendly atmosphere. Lucknow Metro Rail project is a joint venture project of central and Government of Uttar Pradesh. Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) is the agency which is responsible for the construction and management of metro corridor.
