International Association of Public Transport (UITP) collaborated with The Economic Times for the ET Smart Mobility Summit on 04 December 2017 in New Delhi. As part of the partnership, UITP hosted the session on "Electrification of Public Transport – Lessons from European Cities"
European Union commissioned various studies to document the pilot of e-buses and supporting infrastructure like ZeEUS (Zero Emission Urban Bus Systems), ELIPTIC (Electrification of Public Transport in Cities) and ASSURED (fASt and Smart charging solutions for full size URban hEavy Duty applications). The purpose of these projects is to introduce e-buses as part of the urban bus network and build multi-purpose electric public transport infrastructure.
Government of India is promoting the use of electric vehicles in public transport, with the launch of FAME Scheme. Further, the government is incentivizing industry to make investment in the electric mobility. India can learn from the experience of European cities for the introduction of e-buses in the cities. This session will include presentation about European experience in e-buses, followed with discussion on key challenges in India.
